What Technology Should You Add to Your Dental Office?

Posted

If you are dentist who has 40 years experience like me, it can be hard to embrace new ways of working and therefore use the most up-to-date technology. Whilst we may be against technology, if we don’t embrace this new technology, we will be doing our patients a disservice by not offering them the best treatment methods available to them. So, we thought we’d take a look at the latest technology that is for sale through GPSDent.com and explain why you should get it for your dental office.

LED Dental Curing Light w/Built In Caries Detector

First up, we would recommend this LED Dental Curing Light w/Built In Caries Detector. Why should you buy it? Well, compared to a traditional curing light, this particular unit is both small and light weight, which means operating it is a real pleasure and doesn’t get tiring. Also, due to the size of the curing light, you will notice that there is very little if any heat being released, because of the LED technology, which eliminates the need for a cooling fan to be fitted to the light. This makes it quieter to operate, reducing the anxiety of the patient also during treatment.

This particular curing light can be used without a wire. This is because the power used by the curing light is low, which means it can be fitted with a battery. Don’t worry, the battery fitted with this LED Curing light is not high voltage, so it is safe to use. When the power runs low, you can simply recharge the battery due to it’s Lithium composition.

This unit is able to cure 2mm of resin composite in just three seconds. This is mighty fast! There are also six different modes including Low, Ramp, Standard, High, Plaque Inspect, & Caries Inspect. It is easy to switch between the different modes. The curing light also has a built-in radiometer, and there is also smart heat management technology fitted, so even with the low amount of heat produced, it will definitely not overheat with continuous use. This unit is currently priced at $579 on GPSDent.

iCAM High-Quality Digital Intraoral Camera

Another piece of technology we would recommend is the iCAM Intraoral Video Camera. This camera is simple to install and use, making treatments more effective. We would compare this particular camera to that of other brands such as DexCam, SchickCam and SuniCam.

It is compatible with all tablets and laptops that use Windows and Mac, and if required, you can also connect it with a wire to your desktop, if that is the technology you use. The cable can be extended up to 16’ if you use USB extensions.

This camera is able to offer 1.3MP resolution and comes with a fixed-focus lens. Integrated into the camera is a 6-LED lamp. For peace of mind, the iCAM Intraoral Video Camera comes with a 1 year warranty, so if you ever had any issues with the camera, you can send it back to the manufacturer for repair, and if it is beyond repair, they will furnish you with a new camera. The camera also works with the most common software such as MiPacs/DentalEye and all Apteryx derivatives.

Gemini Series - Highspeed Handpiece

Have you considered upgrading your handpiece to this top of the range piece of kit from Gemini? The Gemini Series - Highspeed Handpiece is thought to offer dentists the same sort of experience and design as their existing handpieces, but for a fraction of the price of some of the more famous brands. These Johnson-Promident Gemini handpieces are available for sale with and without fiber optics, so you can choose whether you want to have this feature or not. For peace of mind, all Gemini Series Highspeed Handpieces come with a one-year warranty protection. Dentists who have used this handpiece on a regular basis have nothing but praise for it! It is important to note that the Gemini handpieces are designed to fit the coupling systems of the originals and they are able to offer complete interchangeability with the original handpieces, as well as turbines and component parts.

Jetsonic 2000M Ultrasonic Scaler & Polisher

Lastly, we would recommend you purchase the Jetsonic 2000M Ultrasonic Scaler & Polisher. There are many interesting features of this scaler and polisher which certainly make it worth the investment. The equipment is fitted with the latest sensor technology and is able to easily recognize and activate the selected handpiece (whether scaling or polishing). Because of the advanced microchip feedback system that it comes with, the Jetsonic is able to maintain optimum scaling power no matter what setting you have it under. The Jetsonic also has what they call “Power-Surge Mode” technology, which is able to temporarily increase power by 15-20% with a quick “double-click” on the foot switch. This helps when you are having trouble removing the most hard to reach deposits. When you have used this mode, you can return to the normal power setting by taking your foot away from the foot control. It’s that simple!

There is no need to stop treatments to add powder to the equipment, as you will have a large supply thanks to the easy-view powder reservoir. For looking after the equipment, there is an easy to use rinse mode available, which keeps the Jetsonic in fine working order.

The equipment comes with a 2 year warranty, which is reassuring, and if you have any problems, reports are that they are quick to offer support and help to ensure the equipment is back to working order as soon as possible.

An important function to make note of is the Homogenous Stream Technology (H.S.T.) that the Jetsonic uses. This system automatically mixes air, water, and sodium bicarbonate powder together and propels it out in a single nozzle to allow a homogenous stream of the mixture. There are no separate nozzles here, which is a feature of other airpolishing systems currently for sale on the market.
